Abacus Technology Corporation

Company: Abacus Technology Corporation
Industry: Federal
Carpathia Services: Federally Compliant Cloud

Why Carpathia?

Background
Established in 1983 as an independently owned and operated minority business enterprise, Abacus Technology offers a full spectrum of integrated professional services in information technology, engineering analysis and resource management. Abacus has a broad range of government and commercial expertise in network solutions, information assurance, software development, program management office support, physical security and special studies. Abacus’ reputation for producing and delivering value-added products and services on time and within budget is widely recognized throughout government and industry.

Challenge
As a federal systems integrator, Abacus was working to implement IBM’s Connections social media solution in a secure, federally compliant environment to be potentially used by a variety of government entities. However, due to stringent government regulations regarding data security and procurement, Abacus needed to find a hosting provider with expertise in federally compliant cloud solutions.

Approach
Abacus chose Carpathia because of the company’s vast previous experience with government contracts, in addition to the fact that Carpathia is already a GSA-approved infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) vendor. As a Federal Information Security Management Act (FISMA) compliant hosting provider, Carpathia was well equipped to assist Abacus in securing this work and future bids.

Solution
Carpathia worked with Abacus to implement a FISMA compliant cloud solution on which to run a federally compliant instance of the Connections social media product. The hosting provider worked hand-in-hand with Abacus throughout the proposal process and was a full partner in securing the government contract. Currently, Connections is in the trial phase at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, where it functions as an internal social network where employees can collaborate within a secure infrastructure.

"Because Carpathia had done so much work with the federal government in the past, in addition to having the infrastructure required to meet strict security requirements, working with them was an obvious choice. The team was very helpful and supportive throughout the process and was essentially a full partner in providing information for the proposals required to win the bid."
