Senior Virtualization Engineer
Carpathia Hosting, Inc., a leading provider of enterprise application hosting for government agencies and businesses that require 100% application availability, is looking for a System Engineer (Microsoft background) with a strong background in Virtualization for our Dulles, Virginia office.
Job Overview:
This position offers the unique opportunity to play a role in designing and supporting Virtualization & Cloud Computing efforts at Carpathia Hosting. The ideal candidate possesses strong skills in Virtualization platforms such as VMWare & Citrix XEN and is familiar with concepts such as Remote Orchestration & Disaster Recovery in the virtual world. If you are a motivated self-starter with these skills who can work well both independently or as part of a small team, this position may be for you.
Job Description:
- Working with our Principal Engineers to establish Virtualization platform standards and operating procedures at Carpathia Hosting.
- Working with our Principal Engineers on the implementation of Public and Dedicated Cloud products
- Implementation of new customer environments and support of existing environments.
- Tier 3 Support Rotation
Job Requirements:
Experience is required with some of the following technologies and concepts

Virtualization technologies
- VMware ESX 3.5 and 4.0 including VMotion, VSphere , DRS, HA design
- Citrix XEN including XenMotion, Storage Link, WLB, HA design
- Hyper-V

Virtualization Processes
- Physical To Virtual Migration
- VMware to Xen / Xen to VMware conversion
- Backup / Replication / Disaster Recovery in the virtualized world

Extensive background in operating and administering Microsoft Operating systems
- Windows 2000, 2003, 2008

Extensive experience with IIS and leveraging the Microsoft Platform to host internet sites
- IIS 5,6,7
- Extensive experience leveraging Active Directory including DNS, NTP, Group Policies and Trusts.
- Experience with MS Clustering
Other Requirements:
- Ability to work with little day-to-day oversight
- Strong written and verbal skills
- Solid understanding of networks and network security (VLANS, Port Isolation)
- Attention-to-detail and excellent troubleshooting skills
- Candidate must respond to a wide variety of sounds in order to determine equipment malfunctions.
Education and Training:
- BS in Engineering or equivalent
- 6-10 years of experience
- VMWare VCP / XenServer CCA a plus
- Microsoft MCSE / MCSA a plus
