System Administrator
Carpathia Hosting Inc. is seeking a System Administrator for our secure data center in Sterling, VA. Candidates must be US Citizens and be able to pass a background investigation due to contractual obligations we have with our customers. The hours of this position are 6am-3pm Sunday through Thursday.
As a key member of the team you will be directly responsible for operations support, monitoring of customer solutions, front line handling of inbound & outbound email, phone and trouble ticket communications. System administration and service provisioning as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Operations support in response to system alerts
- Inbound and Outbound Customer communication including telephone, email and trouble tickets

Scheduled system maintenance activities including
- Hardware and Software upgrades
- Software and application Patching
- Working closely with the engineering team to troubleshoot complex customer issues.
- Where necessary, help generate technical documentation
In addition to general Microsoft Office experience we require:
- The candidate will work in the 24*7 Global Operations Center, supporting various customers and technologies on shift.

An understanding of Windows and/or Unix Server operating systems,
- Windows 2003 / 2008
- Redhat / Cent OS Linux
· Understanding of various services such as DNS, SMTP, SNMP, SSL and SSH.
- Prior data center or computer room experience preferred.
- Willingness to jump in and learn new tools and technologies in support of a very diverse set of customers
At times the candidate may be required to lift objects up to 75 pounds, though this is not a primary job requirement.
Experience with any of the following technologies is a plus:
- Databases – MS SQL, MySQL, Oracle, Postgres
- Virtualization Platforms – VMWare, Citrix XEN, MS HyperV
- Web Server – IIS, Apache
- SNMP Monitoring
General Qualifications:
* System administration experience with Unix and/or Windows (MCSA/RHCT/SCSA/LPIC preferred)
* A+, Network+, or Security+ Certification Desirable
* Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience desirable
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to execute flawlessly in stressful situations
* High levels of accountability and ownership with an attention to detail
